This youthful quintet plays gipsy swing with subtlety and originality.Stan Laferriere and Eric Fournier on guitar with Laurent Vanhee on bass provide between them a rhythm powerful yet supple and full of swing complementing the lyrical playing of Pierre-Louis Cas on the clarinet and Christophe Davot on lead guitar. One is reminded of course of Django Reinhardt and his quintet at the Hot Club de France, Paris but also of this tradition carried on by Henri Crolla or Elec Backsik in the 50’s.
They have chosen to present a Brazilian programme by adapting gipsy jazz to the compositions of Choro such as Pinxinguinha, Jacob de bandolin and Ernesto Nazareth.
You might equally hear some Django pieces, some of the great standards ...or some surprises of the conductor’s.
The fun result, wonderfully fresh,is a double declaration of the love of two musics which were made to go together for the audiences pleasure.
Avec Pierre-Louis Cas (clarinette), Christophe Davot (guitare lead), Stan Laferrière et Eric Fournier (guitares), Laurent Vanhee (contrebasse)
